Bulgaria is a parliamentary republic in southeastern Europe, bounded on the north by Romania, to the west by Macedonia and Serbia, to the south by Greece, to the southeast by Turkey, and to the east by the Black Sea.
Together with its neighbors, Bulgaria is part of the Balkans, occupying an area of about 111,000 square kilometers. The relief is extremely varied with large plains and lowlands, low and high mountains, valleys and gorges. The climate is a defined four seasons temperate continental, although a Mediterranean influence is felt in the country's southern regions.
The country is a NATO and European Union (EU) member state.
