Founded and claimed by Spain in 1515-1516, led by Juan Diaz de Solis. Large-scale immigration came from Europe between 1850 and 1940 as over six million made Argentina their home, making the country a mix of peoples and cultures. The land reaches from the edge of the tropics to Antarctic waters, and from the highest mountains in the Western Hemisphere down to a long Atlantic coast. Argentina shares with Chile the distinction of being the southernmost country on Earth.
