Facts

  • The Hyde Park Flats project was approved in 1962, and consisted of one 19-storey tower (Block B, now demolished), one 13-storey tower (Block D), one 10-storey block (Block C) and one 9-storey block (Block A, now demolished).
  • Hyde Park Flats formed Part Two of the Park Hill scheme. Part One, known simply as Park Hill Flats, was built on an adjacent site five years earlier.
  • In 1990, Blocks C and D were refurbished to provide accommodation for the World Student Games, held in Sheffield in 1991. They were renamed Castle Court and Harold Lambert Court in order to shed the poor image associated with the name Hyde Park.
