Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE) combines complete geotechnical studies with structural design of foundations and waterfront structures. The firm specializes in complicated sites, especially in urban areas. Founded in 1910 in New York City, MRCE has an extensive in-house database of subsurface information—unprecedented for the New York City metropolitan area and Washington DC—that is an invaluable resource to clients, especially in preliminary engineering.



MRCE leads the field of foundation engineering with technical expertise and innovative designs, expanding services recently to include frozen ground testing, geo-seismic analysis and testing, and geotechnical and structural instrumentation and monitoring during construction.

Other services include: Site and Subsurface Investigation, Foundation Recommendations, Ground improvement and slope stabilization, Geotechnical Laboratory Testing; Geophysical in-situ testing; Site instrumentation with real time monitoring; Soil-Structure interaction; Site-specific seismic analysis; Foundation and Geotechnical Analysis and Design; Excavation Support and temporary structures; Slurry walls (Diaphragm walls) and slurry trenches; Protection of adjacent structures; Underpinning, including historic facades and buildings; Rehabilitation of existing foundations; Contract Documents and Construction Support and Inspection.




MRCE's technical staff is comprised of nearly 100 geotechnical and foundation engineers, a large department of CAD designers and draftspersons, and soils mechanics laboratory providing a unique value-added service to our clients. Used exclusively on the firm’s design assignments, it provides quick turnaround time and an opportunity for hands-on examination of materials by project engineers to verify and understand soil test results. Total staff is more than 145.

All Partners, Senior Associates and Associates and a majority of our other technical staff are registered Professional Engineers with licenses across the United States and several are Registered European Engineers (FEANI). Timely project completion is assured by providing strong, experienced leadership, active participation and close monitoring of each project by a Partner-in-Charge. The firm has established a long list of repeat clients by providing efficient and workable solutions to assignments in a timely manner.
