Montréal-Est is a town on the island of Montreal. It was originally founded in 1910 by businessman Joseph Versailles. On January 1, 2002 it was merged into the City of Montreal. It voted on June 20, 2004 to demerge and was re-established as a town on January 1, 2006. It was the only community in the eastern half of the island that voted to demerge.
