Located 40 kilometers from the city of Novorossiysk, Gelendzhik is home to some of Russia's most popular resorts. Thanks to its convenient location in the picturesque bays of Black Sea and its fresh air, Gelendzhik has kept much of its southern charm while earning a reputation of the "Russian Riviera". Gelendzhik has unique subtropical climate which constitute of vibrations of sea and mountains, salubrious rich pine air, mineral springs, ecologically clean flora and fauna.
The Russian history in Gelendzhik starts in 1831 with the establishing of the first military fortress at a Black Sea coast in Caucasus. Gelendzhik grew rapidly throughout the first half of the 20th century and during the Soviet Rule thanks to its affluent population of famous artists, poets, college students, doctors, and engineers who have contributed to the development of the city.
Today the famous Gelendzhik carnival, a fantastic show filled with various artistic performances, madness of colors, unforgettable fireworks, is considered to be an unforgettable opener of the summer vacation season. In addition to the carnival, Gelendzhik hosts a Hydro Air Show with as much as 140 international companies taking part in it every two year.
