Hinsdale is an upscale suburb on the eastern edge of DuPage County by the Tri-State Tollway. The village is known locally for its well preserved downtown with several blocks of small shops and restaurants in buildings dating back to the end of the 19th century. Its residential areas are among the priciest in the area, with shady tree-lined streets and one of the best school systems in the Chicago area. Originally named Brush Hill, Hinsdale is located on what used to be the Black Hawk Indian Trail. In 1862 the village was founded by William Robbins, who planned its streets and started planting trees.
