Located roughly equidistant to Houston, San Antonio & Corpus Christi; Victoria is the seat of Victoria County. It also is home to nearly three-quarters of the county's entire population, as well as over half of the population in the metropolitan area.
The city was incorporated into the Republic of Texas in 1839, making it the second oldest incorporated place within the state. In the post-Civil War era, Victoria would emerge as a both an industrial and agricultural center.
Today, the city is home to a number of various industries as well as it's own deepwater port, which is fairly rare for cities of Victoria's size. The city also has a small skyline of several low-rise buildings which is visible from several points in the area.
