Rødovre is located just west of Copenhagen. Its history goes back many hundred years but it did not grow significantly until after it became an independent municipality in 1901. Rødovre's growth increased at the beginning of the 1950s, and within ten years the population doubled before levelling off at around 37,000.
A few high-rises can be found here, all of them part of "Milestedet" in the southwestern part of Rødovre and the eastern part of Brøndby. Rødovre possesses some distinctive architecture, especially its City Hall designed by the famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen.
