Evanston is the first suburb north of Chicago on Lake Michigan. The city grew up around Northwestern University, and is known for its historic neighborhoods, large elm trees, and the trademark Tallmadge streetlamps. In many ways a small mirror image of its mother city, Evanston has public parks and bicycle paths along its lake shore, and a lively urban downtown with a growing skyline. Main attractions include Grosse Point Lighthouse, Merrick Rose Garden, Ladd Arboretum, Big 10 football at Ryan Field, and Northwestern's 'lakefill' campus with its large lagoon.
