Nestled in a beautiful valley at the foot of Great Smoky Mountains National Park in extreme eastern Tennessee, Gatlinburg is a year-round resort town. Due to its remote location, settlement of the city was rather slow in its early stages. It was in 1855 when Radford Gatlin, the city's namesake, established his mercantile within the city and mail service was given to the city. The city has since grown to become an extremely popular tourist destination due to its dramatic valley setting and close proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains.
