Corpus Christi is the largest city located along the Texas Gulf Coast and is the county seat of Nueces County. Located 140 miles southeast of San Antonio, the city serves as a center of industry and tourism. Known as the "Sparkling City by the Sea," Corpus is home to a number of museums, including the decomissioned aircraft carrier USS Lexington.
This seaside location has made Corpus Christi the second largest port city in Texas in addition to being a major oil and petrochemical production center. The city is also known as a mecca for windsurfing and other windsports as well as traditional marine activities like fishing. Corpus Christi is home to a branch of Texas A&M University, which occupies its own island south of downtown.
