Sioux City is a commercial and manufacturing center in northwest Iowa. Much of its industry involves trading and processing agricultural products from the surrounding region. The city was laid out in 1854 and named for the Sioux Indians, many of whom were friendly toward white settlers in the area. Sioux City is the seat of Woodbury County.
