The Santa Barbara area is the American Riviera. Situated less than 100 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, the city is famous for its sweeping coastline and white sandy beaches. Framed by the backdrop of the craggy Santa Ynez Mountains, Santa Barbara is unique. With a year-round Mediterranean climate that provides over 300 days of sunshine each year, this city is rich in history. Mapped by Juan Cabrillo in 1542, named by explorer Sebastian Vizcaino four decades later, and finally established as a mission by the Catholic fathers in 1782.
