The largest city in Virginia, Virginia Beach is an independent city located in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The present city was originally incorporated as a town in 1906 and as an independent city in 1952. By 1963, Princess Anne County would consolidate into and become part of Virginia Beach. Today the city attracts tourists with its 3-mile beach and boardwalk lined with hotels, and its always plentiful saltwater taffy. Virginia Beach is also notable as being the location of the Commonwealth's tallest building, The Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, completed in 2007 as part of The Town Center of Virginia Beach.
