Eventhough this is a very modern city, a glimpse into colonial time Guayaquil is possible by visiting the district of Las Peñas. This small neighborhood is a vestige of the colonial city with its wooden houses and narrow cobble stone streets besides of a great view of the city’s skyline. Downtown Guayaquil grows along the bustling riverfront known as “Malecón 2000”, alongside the Guayas river where the main skyline of the city is found as well as the highest building in Ecuador, La Previsora building.
