Dakar is the capital of Senegal and was founded in 1858 by the French. The city is located on the Cape Verde Peninsula on the west coast of Africa, thus the city is a important hub for trans-Atlantic and European trade with a major regional port.
The city is home for the Senegal National Assembly and the Senegal Presidential Palace and boosts many beautiful beaches and resorts. Dakar is also famous for hosting the finishing line of the yearly Paris-Dakar rally.
In Dakar one can find plenty of multi-storey low-rise buildings, but only a few high-rise buildings that mostly can be found in the city's centre.
