  • The August Schell Brewery is the second-oldest family-owned brewery in the United States, after the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
  • It became the largest brewery in Minnesota in 2002 after purchasing the rights to Grain Belt Premium when production was shut down at the Jacob Schmidt Brewery in St. Paul. The original Grain Belt Brewhouse still stands in Minneapolis.
