Facts
Silvercrest operated as the Southern Indiana Tuberculosis Hospital from 1940 until 1972 when it became the Silvercrest Children's Development Center.
It was closed in 2006 and awaits redevelopment.
The building is noted for its excellent art-moderne design, featuring rounded corners with glass block windows and a two-level tiered penthouse. It stands on a hillside west of downtown, overlooking the city, the Ohio River, and nearby Kentucky.
