  • In 1920, the National Negro Baseball Leagues were founded at a meeting in this building. The Negro Leagues last season was 1955. The Kansas City team was named the Monarchs.
  • One of 25 YMCA's in the USA built specifically to house African-Americans. The building has been vacant since the early 1970s.
  • The Center is named in honor of one of the League's greatest players who became the first black coach and later administrator in Major League Baseball.
