Facts

  • Grossinger's was founded in 1919 by Jewish immigrants from Galicia, Austria.
  • The original name was Grossinger's Terrace Hill House.
  • Under the direction of daughter Jennie, the resort grew into a complex of 35 buildings on 1200 acres serving 150,000 guests a year.
  • Grossinger's was famed for its kosher food, entertainment, numerous sports facilities, and as the site of the world's first artificial snow.
  • At its peak, it was an independent municipality with its own post office and airstrip.
  • The resort slowly declined after Jennie's death in 1972 and was closed in 1986.
  • Only the adjacent golf course remains open, while many of the resort's buildings have been left to deteriorate.
