Facts

  • The funds for construction were bequeathed to the city by a prosperous local grain merchant. It is believed to be the earliest municipally-owned and operated playhouse west of the Mississippi River.
  • The T.B. Sheldon Memorial Auditorium was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 as a contributing member of the Red Wing Mall Historic District.
  • The building was damaged by fire in 1918. A massive renovation completed in 1988 returned the structure to its original splendor.
