Facts

  • The Assembly rooms have seen concerts, political meetings, balls and dances of all kinds.
  • On many occasions, election results have been declared from this building.
  • A landmark visible from the waterfront on both sides of the River Mersey.
  • This building forms the main part of one of the finest Georgian Squares in the country.
  • Was constructed using Scottish granite and local sandstone.
  • In 1974 the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral was created and Wallasey Town Hall was chosen as their base as it had a larger Council Chamber.
  • A secure, environmentally controlled strong room now provides storage for over 500 metres of archives.
  • During royal visits, local troops are inspected in front of the main entrance.
  • In 1991, the Town Hall was earmarked as the site of a new museum for the Wirral.
