  • The building remained operational throughout the two years it took to complete the refurbishment.
  • Refurbishment began in 1992 and was undertaken at a cost of around £20m.

  • Light is able to enter through the roof through thousands of glass discs set in concrete and held up by the steel frame.
  • Regarded as possessing one of the best British interiors of the 20th century.
  • The refurbishment included the replacement of over 3345 sq m of external glazing.
