Facts

  • Old Main was the original building of the Baptist Hospital complex.
  • It was dedicated on May 28, 1923.
  • It comprised 80 beds on the third and fourth floors, doctors offices on the first, and nurses quarters on the fifth.
  • Because of inadequate fireproofing and general obsolescence, the building was demolished in the fall of 1978.
  • Symmetrial wings were added to the north and south of the original building during 1940-1941 along with construction of the neighboring Bowman Gray School of Medicine and West Wing buildings.
  • Watlington Hall - WFUBMC now stands on the site of the Old Main Building.
