Facts

  • The auditorium was home to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from its completion until 1989, when they left for a newly-refurbished Orchestra Hall in Midtown.
  • The Ford Auditorium was completely shuttered in 1991, and was proposed for both demolition and refurbishment with no plans ever coming to fruition.
  • The 2,900 seat auditorium was designed in the "International" style, and features mica-flecked, blue granite walls along the east and west facade, with the remainder in white marble.
  • The auditorium was directly connected to a 750-space, underground municipal parking-garage.
