This building was the tallest building in downtown Louisiana until it sustained heavy damage during a windstorm on May 24, 2004.
After the city determined that the building cannot be salvaged, a local developer agreed to finish the demolition of this building and the neighboring buildings to the east and west before Spring 2006.
Immediately after the storm in May 2004, the city had the front facade and the 4th floor of the building completely removed for safety reasons and to give them time to see if they could save the remainder of the building.
Originally constructed as a 2-story building, a third floor was added and then a fourth.
The city purchased the building for $1.00 after the developer failed to redevelop the property and the city demolished the remainder of the building.
