Facts

  • This is the tallest donjon in France.
  • From this tower, Simon de Montfort appealed in 1217 to continue the crusade against the Albigenses.
  • From the 15th to the 19th century, this tower served as a prison for prisoners locked up for political or religious reasons.
  • This fortress was already classed an historical monument in 1877.
  • This tower provides some breath taking panoramic views over the surroundings: the city of Crest itself, la vallée de la Drôme, the mountains of the Ardèche of the forests of Saoû and Diois.
