Facts

  • The redundant subterranean oil tanks remaindered from former Bankside Power Station (now Tate Modern) will be cleaned out and used as possible performance spaces.
  • Tate Modern Extension will be sited on the southwest side of Tate Modern and will be accessed via Tate Modern's Turbine Hall and by bridge links at the second and fifth floor levels.
  • Tate Modern Extension is intended to create the world's leading creative arts centre whilst simultaneously providing a landmark building for London's skyline.
  • The original design, which resembled a stack of glass boxes and was likened to a ziggurat, was replaced with one of brick which is less angular and better harmonises with the adjacent Tate Modern.
