Facts

  • This open structure is the centerpiece of Earl L. Neal Plaza.
  • The Skyspace resembles a kiosk or a gazebo but its main purpose is to create displays of light under the elliptical hole in its rotunda.
  • Waterfalls drape the open parts of the lower half, screening the inner room from traffic noises on the busy adjacent streets.
  • The space inside is enlivened by an interplay of natural and artificial light, including illumination from lights in the pavement.
  • The best times for viewing the lighting effects are supposed to be dusk and dawn, when reds and yellows tint the rotunda if the sky is clear.
