Facts

  • This is the third incarnation of Liverpool Town Hall to have sat on or near this site.
  • The building is neo-Classical in design with a portico topped by a pediment; the building is topped with a dome which is faced with four clock faces.
  • Designed by Felix Rossi, the dome is topped by a 10-foot high terracotta statue of the goddess Minerva which is gilded with 87,000 square inches of gold leaf.
  • In 1794 the town hall was gutted by fire; it was rebuilt between 1795 and 1820.
