Facts

  • The steeple houses five brass bells, the biggest of which weighs 7,000 kilos.
  • On the sixth floor is located a clock with four quadrants and a diameter of 4,40 meters.
  • The tower has two exhibition spaces; one is an historical gallery whilst the other is a picture gallery.
  • This tower monument was inaugurated May 24, 1916.
  • Donated by the British residents, at the time of the first centennial of the Revolution of May.
  • The dome has eight faces and is covered with copper sheets.
  • There is a mirador on the sixth floor which affords views over much of the city and river.
  • After a long closure, the tower was reopened in 2001.
