Facts

  • The construction of this church started around 1150-1155.
  • The southern tower was built in 1250, while the northern one completed construction around 1510.
  • This church was severely damaged during the French Revolution. Numerous architectural artifacts were irreparably damaged.
  • This church has a three level elevation.
  • The church has a simple nave with no transept.
  • From an architectural point of view, similarities with Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Laon and Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris can clearly be seen.
  • The choir was completed by the end of the 12th century.
  • The northern tower was reconstructed in 1850 as mirrored copy of the southern tower.
  • The ambulatory is surrounded by nine chapels, which were constructed between 1285 and 1359.
  • The rose window on the west façade was constructed between 1215 and 1225.
  • In 1840 the church was officially declared a monument.
