Facts

  • The very first cathedral was constructed in the 10th century on order of bishop Heimon. Today this structure still serves as the base of the current cathedral.
  • In 1047 under bishop Thierry the cathedral is renovated and enlarged.
  • During the 12th century the choir, the artwork on the porches of Saint John and the lion, and the crypts are constructed by architect Garin.
  • On November 11, 1147, the cathedral was inaugurated by pope Eugene III.
