WLNS-ENG Tower, WJIM-TV Studio Tower, WJIM-FM/AM Tower
Structure in General
The tower was originally constructed by WJIM-TV for their broadcasts, at the time, in black and white. WJIM-TV (now WLNS-TV) is the second oldest television station in the State of Michigan.
The tower functioned as a television tower until the mid 1980s when the tower was fitted with transmitters for WJIM's broadcasts of FM and AM radio.
After the three chimney stacks of the Eckert Power Station in central Lansing, this is the fourth tallest structure within the municipal boundaries of Lansing.
The actual structure consists of a five-foot tall concrete podium, a 420-foot steel tower, which is topped by a 82-foot antenna.
The tower, as of 2006, held three cell phone companies, repeaters, a wireless internet company, and served as one of WLNS' electronic news gathering sites, which allows WLNS to receive video and audio tranmissions from its mobile units.
