Facts

  • In 1400, the bell-tower of the Basilica of San Simpliciano, one of the world's oldest churches, built at the beginning of the third century, was destroyed by the Dukes of Milano because it rose higher than the main tower of the Maschio del Castello, the Visconti Castle.
  • The bell tower was rebuilt few years later (not very tall) and still exists, as the church.
