Facts

  • The landmark Pagoda overlooks Reading from a height of 886 feet above the city on the slopes of Mount Penn.
  • The structure was conceived by Reading businessman William Abbot Witman, Sr. as a luxury hotel.
  • Inadequate access caused the hotel plan to fail, and Witman sold the property in 1910, which was in turn donated to the city in 1911.
