Facts

  • The church is built in the Greek revival style.
  • In 1885 St. John's was renovated and in 1924 was internally altered by Ninian Comper.
  • A large proportion of the church was destroyed when hit by a bomb in 1940 and it stood open for ten years until being remodelled and restored in 1950; St. John's was rededicated as the Festival of Britain Church in 1951.
  • St. John the Evangelist is Grade II* Listed.
