Facts

  • In 1682, part of the western side of the previous church collapses and destroys the organ. Under leadership of architect Huguet, it is decided to construct a new church.
  • The current church is oriented to west, differently from the orientation of the previous church and mainly because of space restrictions.
  • The construction works are interrupted in 1720 after a fire destroys the roof and other woodwork.
  • When architect Huguet deceases in 1730 the choir and the transept are finished.
  • Architect Le Forestier continues the construction works until the basilica is finished.
  • The main building material of this basilica is granite.
