Facts

  • In 2001 the US Coast Guard sought bids to replace the lighthouse. Demolition started in January of 2002 and was completed by April of that year.
  • The lighthouse was replaced by a modern 50-foot tower which uses part of the original lighthouse's foundation.
  • The structure was a 'sparkplug' lighthouse, i.e. its design resembled the profile of a sparkplug.
  • The lantern room was restored and is now on display in Lions Park in Port Arthur.
