  • When Regent Wall Street Hotel purchased the building in 1907, it assigned McKim, Meade and White to design an addition that would double the height.
  • The building was originally designed to replace the original Merchants' Exchange that burned down in the great fire of 1835.
  • After Merchants' Exchange closed in the middle of nineteenth century, the building was occupied by the Port of New York customs collection.
