Facts

  • This church is one of the first gothic cathedrals, but is less well-known than contemporaries like Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Laon, and Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Noyon.
  • This cathedral is considered as the smallest in length in France.
  • The choir is considered to be the first constructed part (finished before 1167), followed by the west façade (around 1170).
  • The finishing of the junction between nave and choir proves there were actually two separated construction sites.
  • Construction started around 1150 to 1155. Most of the construction work was done between the years 1155 and 1180.
