Facts

  • In 1917, travellers paid a 5-cent toll to cross the Interstate Bridge.
  • The bridge connects Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR.
  • The bridge has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982.
  • The bridge was originally owned by Multnomah and Clark counties, later taken over by the states of Washington and Oregon in 1929 and the tolls removed.
  • The eastern length of the bridge was opened on February 15, 1917.
  • The peak capacity per hour is 5,700 vehicles.
  • On July 1, 1958, construction of the western length of the bridge linking Oregon and Washington was completed.
  • In 1960, tollbooths were once again installed after the remodelling work on the 1917 bridge was completed, but they were removed in 1966.
