  • This greenhouses is patterned after Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's historic mansion.
  • Upon her death in 1953, the greenhouse was dedicated to Ms. Whitcomb, who left her 600-plant orchid collection to the City of Detroit.
  • As well as being a conservatory, the greenhouse provides plants for Detroit's municipal buildings, parks, and boulevards.
  • This building is home to the Belle Isle Botanical Society, a non-profit organization created to further gardening efforts through educational programs.
  • This complex occupies 13 acres near the southwestern corner of Belle Isle. The complex includes perennial gardens, a rose garden, a lily pond, and numerous greenhouses.
  • The conservatory underwent a $680,000 renovation from August 17 to November 20, 2006, which included the replacement of five hundred glass pieces of the dome, and an upgrade to the greenhouses heating system to better control the indoor climate.
