Facts

  • This structure won an Award of Merit from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois in 2001.
  • At the time of completion, this was one of only 4 carillons worldwide whose bells span 6 full octaves.
  • The bells are played on an oak clavier situated in a glass cabin between the two bell chambers 95 feet up the carillon tower.
  • The 72 bronze bells were cast in the Netherlands at the Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry.
  • The largest bell weighs nearly 6 tons, and is named the Captain Joseph Naperville Bell (referred to locally as 'Big Joe').
