  • The church's history dates back to 1851 when it built the original structure at the corner of East 9th and Brazos Streets one block to the south. The church then was known as the Saint Patrick's Church.
  • The church gained cathedral status in 1947.
  • The cathedral's two towers were added in 1894.
  • In 1890 the stained glass windows were added which were imported from France and Germany.
  • Dedicated in 1884.
  • The church's bell first tolled on July 4, 1886.
