  • Initially, the board of trustees over seeing the design plans wanted the building to represent Georgian architectural style.
  • The Ayer Wing construction completed in 1932, and the Hirsch Wing was completed in 1939.
  • The Hoffman Wing, which was the third wing of the building, was added in 1969.
  • In 2000, the renovation and expansion cost was US $45 million.
  • The building has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since December 31, 1974.
  • In 1996, the building was awarded the Energy Efficiency BEST award from the City of Portland.
