  • The building has been placed in the National Register of Historical Places since 1979.

  • The Georgian-style building was visibly influenced by the Boston Public Library and the Bibliotheque Sainte Genevieve in Paris.
  • Beneath each window on three of the four sides of the building is a list of names carved into the granite. Each window includes a set of names of educators, explorers, sculptors, architects, philosophers, novelists, and other groups.
