  • Officially opened on April 29, 1966.
  • On Tuesday, October 11, 2005, 2,250 pounds of explosives were used to demolish a 500 foot section of the bridge over Town Creek. The demolished truss was blown into 11 pieces as to expediate its removal from the creek bed below.
  • Slated for demolition beginning in late 2005 along with the John P. Grace Memorial Bridge, portions of the demolished structure will be utilized as an artificial reef at the bottom of the ocean.
  • Replaced with the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge.
