  • Officially opened on August 8, 1929.
  • At the time of its completion this had the fifth longest main bridge span in the world with a length of 1050 feet between main supports.
  • In being considered functionally obsolete since 1979, this has been replaced with the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge.
  • Slated for demolition beginning in late 2005 along with the Silas N. Pearman Bridge, portions of the demolished structure will be utilized as an artificial reef at the bottom of the ocean.
